FTP (File Transfer Protocol) And Web Hosting
Filed Under (Marketing) by announcement on 18-05-2010
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is used as a way to upload or download data to the internet. And in terms of web hosting it is quite important because it is probably one of the most common ways of uploading websites to the internet. Once a website has been created and is ready to be seen online, FTP can be used to get it on to the World Wide Web. And while not every website is uploaded to the internet using FTP, the vast majority of them are done with this protocol.
What is File Transfer Protocol (FTP)?
FTP allows different client and server applications to communicate with each other. One of the best things about FTP is that it allows different operating systems to share data. For example it would enable information to be sent from a Mac system to a Windows system. FTP has been in existence since the early seventies and was originally referred to as RFC114-FTP.
FTP and Web Hosting
When you create your web pages you will more than likely transfer it to the web host using FTP. And it will then site on the server until a visitor requests to see it. And FTP will then be used to transfer it to the system of the visitor. Most FTP programs which upload pages to a server will do the same thing, although there are quite a number to choose from. Developers were quick to deal with any security concerns which were raised over the last few years in relation to the FTP prototcol.
The actual ins and outs of File Transfer Protocol are not something that most of us concern ourselves with even though we would be very familiar with the term. The main thing is that it works and allows us to make our web pages available to anyone who might be interested.
When you decide to go into internet marketing, you should make sure that you have web hosting UK dealt with beforehand. The web hosting world can be a confusing one though for a newbie. For example, you may come across reseller web hosting or even linux web hosting on your travels.
